My Little Town is a well written account of small town town southern life from the perspective of an "outsider", as they are so often called "down here". The author shares his struggle with understanding the blatant biases, backhanded compliments, blind devotions and often close minded approaches to life he encounters while living in one of the poorest counties in Alabama. As a lifelong Alabamian I found myself laughing out loud at the accuracy of how he perceives the motives behind these, sometimes centuries old, attitudes and prejudices. He caused me to reflect on my own reasons for calling the south my "home"....If you enjoy books that spur you to introspection then this one is for you. Time and money well spent.
